By the fourteenth week of pregnancy the size of the baby is three and half inches and its weight is around one and half ounce. The growth which takes place around this time makes the body proportional to the size of the head. In earlier weeks the size of the head and body was not proportional in size. The neck of the baby will get stretched during this week and his chin will move upwards in such a way that it does not remain close to the region of its chest. Immediately after the onset of the fourteenth week of pregnancy the baby starts to derive its nutrition from the placenta. So women should be extremely careful about what they eat because everything can reach the wall of the placenta and the fetus can get affected through it. It is suggested that pregnant women should consume totally healthy food, in order to have a healthy baby. A healthy diet can assure the good health of the baby to a large extent. It is recommended that women should avoid alcohol and smoking during pregnancy because it can harm the baby.  

By this week most of the women will develop a little paunch on the tummy. Constipation is also common around this time. The main cause of constipation during pregnancy is because of the fact that women tend to consume iron supplements in order to combat with anemia. There are a lot of ways through which one can get rid of constipation during pregnancy. One needs to get rid of the problem of constipation as it can give rise to hemorrhoids. The first step to curb constipation is to consume adequate amount of water. One of the major signs of dehydration is feeling thirsty. If you feel thirsty frequently, it means that your body is dehydrated and is in need of water. And when the body does not receive water one goes through constipation. Your diet should also include high fiber food. But one should be careful enough to eat high fiber food in moderation as too much of it can cause gas, which can make any pregnant women very uncomfortable. Whenever you include high fiber foods in your diet, make sure that it is done in a gradual manner so that the body can get used to it.
 
Women feel more energetic during the span of the second trimester, and they get more inclined towards exercise during this phase. Women who have not indulged in exercise before should take suggestions from the doctor regarding the types of exercise which will suit their body. One should be particularly careful after the onset of the third trimester of the pregnancy, as one can easily succumb to injuries as the body produces a hormone named relaxin during this time. These hormones aids in the process of delivery. Most of the doctors recommend keeping the heart rate below one hundred and forty, so that one does not get overtly tired and the baby is not deprived of the required amount of oxygen supply.
