Home   Pregnancy Week 3
 Pregnancy Week 3

During the third week of pregnancy the baby is so minute that it is impossible to observe it with a naked eye but its growth is going on at a fast pace. At this time many women are sure of the fact that they have got pregnant. Although you might not have experienced the most popular symptom of pregnancy, i.e. a missed period, but the growth of a baby has already begun in your body. During this phase your baby is just a cluster of cells, which keeps on multiplying at an amazing speed. The size of the baby is a measly 0.006 inch. The main course of action in the third week of pregnancy is the process of fertilization, where the sperm comes in contact with the egg after piercing the exterior layers of the ovum. There are more than hundred sperms which encompass the egg but only one of them has the strength to penetrate the egg. An embryo is developed after the period of three days since the fertilization of the egg. The placenta develops in the next week of pregnancy but the baby keeps on deriving the nutrition from a unique circulation system.

The physical changes in the pregnancy can hardly be experienced at the third week of pregnancy. A sign through which you can detect the confirmation of your pregnancy is through the bleeding which might occur at this time, although this sign might not be prominent in all the cases. Bleeding might occur during the time of conception, and most of the women either ignore this fact or they simply consider it as premenstrual bleeding. This type of bleeding is also known as implantation bleeding and it happens when the egg attaches itself to the uterine wall and this act takes place by the end of the third week of the pregnancy. During this time a lot of amniotic fluid gets accumulated around the embryo, and acts as a cushion for the baby (in the form of an amniotic sac) during the entire phase of pregnancy.

During the early phases of pregnancy it is advisable to take proper care of yourself and adopt a lifestyle which is healthy. You can make an exercise routine after taking advice from your doctor, as it is extremely important to do the right exercises during pregnancy because one wrong step can cause immense harm to your baby and body. If you want to take a home pregnancy test at the third week of pregnancy then it is unlikely to yield any proper results. This is mainly due to the fact that home pregnancy test can confirm or reject the presence of a pregnancy only when there are three or four days left for the occurrence of your next period. So you can rely on the home pregnancy test only after the end of the fourth week of pregnancy. You should prepare yourself emotionally to experience all the changes that your body will go through during the entire pregnancy.
