During the sixth week of pregnancy you will experience some amount of weight gain. Generally during the first trimester women tend to gain around five pounds, although it might vary in different cases. There are some cases, where the women do not gain any weight during the first trimester because of excessive morning sickness. And there have also been instances where some women also tend to lose some weight during the first trimester of pregnancy. Morning sickness is a common syndrome during the sixth week of pregnancy. But when the condition of morning sickness gets extremely severe then it is known as hyperemesis gravidarum. In this condition the woman might need to get admitted to the hospital as she experiences abnormal weight loss, dehydration, which is not good for the development of the fetus. The most prominent symptom of hyperemesis gravidarum, is vomiting frequently and abnormal weight loss.
The size of the uterus during the sixth week pregnancy is similar to the size of a plum. And the size of the baby is just like that of a halved baby pea. From crown to crump the size of the baby is in the range of four to six millimeters. At this time, through ultrasound the size of the baby gets determined. The breasts might feel excessively tender and the areolas will become dark in color. People around you will not be able to detect that you are pregnant at the sixth week of pregnancy but you might feel that your trousers or jeans do not fit you comfortably as they used to in the past. But this is not the time to buy maternity clothes as a one size bigger trouser or jeans will suffice during this period of time. Dark spots on the fetus start to appear where the eyes and nostrils will develop in the coming weeks. A little hollowed region also forms on the sides of the head so that the ear can develop there. Sixth week of pregnancy also sees the formation of buds which will turn into arms and legs in the next phase of pregnancy. The heart rate of the baby becomes prominent during this time and the heartbeat ranges from hundred to hundred forty beats per minute. Blood circulation also takes place in the body of the baby by this time. The baby would have developed a reflex system by now and will in the condition to respond to a touch, as the central nervous system already starts developing by the fifth week of pregnancy.
A high protein diet is recommended during this time of the pregnancy and you should try to avoid oily or deep fried foods. You will develop food cravings during the sixth food of pregnancy. You can satisfy your urges but make sure that you eat them in moderate amounts. Whenever you plan to go out, just carry some food items, water, and an air bag as you never know when you will get hunger pangs or nauseous, so it is a wise idea to get prepared for such situations.
