Average Cost of IUI

The process of intrauterine insemination or artificial insemination is performed effectively by the doctor to help in increasing the fertility of the woman. So, IUI is useful when the woman has a cervical mucus problem, or the man has antibodies to his own sperm, or even in some of the cases the man suffers from retrograde ejaculation, where the semen goes backward into the bladder rather than coming out of the penis. But, with the help of the IUI technique, the chances of the meeting of the egg and the sperm increases.

IUI cost
There are various methods for performing the artificial insemination. Some of the people practices, self-insemination at home or even few of them like to consult to the doctor before performing this method. During this procedure, the sperms are removed from the patient’s seminal fluid and then, they are injected directly into the uterine cavity. That’s why, it is not advisable by the doctors to inject the semen directly into the uterus, as the semen contains chemicals and it may cause tubal infection.
The average cost for performing the IUI treatment varies from clinic to clinic, but it nearly costs around Rs 3000 to Rs 8000 for the entire treatment cycle. However, for the injections purpose, the treatment can become more expensive and it can nearly costs around Rs 20,000 for one month’s treatment. While for doing a normal IUI cycle, it can costs up to $200.
For a natural cycle, often an ovulation prediction kits is used, which costs around $ 15-60 for 5-9 tests. Many of the doctors even monitor the development of the follicle during the IUI process. As, a woman can ovulate more than one follicle during the whole process, but the releases would occur within 24 hours.

The cost also varies, as the sperm needs to be processed in the laboratory for IUI. The processing of the sperm is done by concentrating the actively motile sperms into a small volume of culture fluid. As, the sperm does not remain alive for a longer period. For this reason, it has always been advised to do the entire process in the clinic, although it is little expensive for a normal couple.
However, there are different techniques for processing the sperm and these require special laboratory expertise. The simplest method includes the washing of the semen with the help of the culture medium. And, one of the most commonly used techniques is using a density gradient column. As, this method allows to separate the sperm, the cells and the seminal plasma. With the help of this method, the motile sperms can be easily recovered. So, this has been suggested as the most standard technique for IUI.
So, the success rate of IUI depends upon the various factors. First, of all, it is important to know the reason of the infertility. As, the chances of conceiving in one cycle is about 10-15%. However, the couple needs to undergo the four rounds of treatment, which becomes very expensive.
Thus, for this reason, IUI is a simple, expensive, effective therapy and can easily be treated at home, but under the medical supervision, in order to avoid any problems or issues. And, one can even do these treatments under insurance covering, for which the patient have to pay less.
