Cervical Spine

The cervical spine refers to the series of smaller neck bones just below the skull. These bones are directly connected to the vertebrae of the patient. If there is a slight damage in the cervical spine, the patient would likely be able to feel slight pain whenever he or she attempts to move his or her head around in which ever direction.


Regular visits to your chiropractor can help alleviate this kind of pain. There are certain exercises that can be done by the medical experts to make it easier for you to move your neck. However, first we have to figure out what really happens inside the neck when you feel this sort of pain.

What usually occurs is that you most likely have a weak disc in your cervical spine. If you have a weak disc support, your neck would likely be affected. This is why certain types of pain are felt whenever there is a problem with the cervical spine.

You would most likely not be able to move your neck in a rotating motion. (Stiff neck) In this case, a series of massages can help alleviate your pain. However, you still have to make sure that these activities are done by your chiropractor so that you would be in the hands of an expert when your cervical spine is being treated.

Head rotation is one exercise that you can do to alleviate your neck pain. But there are certain precautions that you still need to take before doing this exercise. You have to make sure that you don’t rotate your head fully.

You must apply pressure on either side of your head before you turn to that direction. If you’re going to turn left, make sure that you put your hand in front of your left cheek to prevent your head from turning fully. The pressure from your hand will help alleviate the pain of your neck. The same procedure goes for the opposite direction.

In addition to this never go all the way up when raising your head to stretch. This might put more pressure on the vertebral discs on your neck which might cause more damage. When massaging, apply light pressure on the segmented parts of your neck. This way, you would be able to realign the discs on your cervical spine without incurring more damage to your vertebrae.

These are just some tips to alleviate simple neck pains. However there are certain conditions where in you would still need to be in a brace to prevent any further damage from happening. If you have incurred any accidents that may affect your neck in the long run, it is better to visit your doctor right away.
