Charlene Wedding Dress by Armani

When high profile weddings are announced, there is much curiosity in the air about who will design the wedding dress of the bride. One of the best kept secrets of Britain’s royal wedding on 29 April 2011 was the designer and style of the bride’s wedding dress.  While royal watchers wondered who would make Kate Middleton's wedding dress, the designer of another royal gown has made his intentions known.

Kate opted for Sarah Burton from the House of Alexander McQueen for designing her wedding dress.

There has been no less speculation over the designer of Charlene Wittstock’s wedding dress, when she marries Prince Albert of Monaco on 2 July 2011. The names of many famous designers, Elie Saab to Giorgio Armani have been speculated upon for the same.  Finally Armani, the 76 year old designer has confirmed that he indeed will design her wedding dress.

According to news reports, Giorgio Armani will dress Charlene Wittstock for her wedding to Monaco's Prince Albert II, the son of the late Grace Kelly and the late Rainer III, Prince of Monaco. Charlene Wittstock has shown a preference for Armani’s designs, wearing them at different public occasions where she appeared with Prince Albert.

Charlene has been actually a huge fan of Giorgio's work. Over the last decade, Charlene has showed a marked preference for Armani’s designs, slowly but surely creating for herself an elegant and understated image. She opted to wear beige sheath dresses and sharp-lined gray pantsuits. According to several Italian newspapers, Armani spoke directly to reporters after his men's fashion collection in Milan on Sunday. "Yes, I want to declare, I will make the wedding dress," he confirmed.

Wittstock showed a liking for designs by Armani and attended his shows in Milan and consistently wore his gowns over the last few years. Charlene has attended Armani's shows in Italy in 2008 and 2009 and has consistently shown a preference for the designer's sophisticated styling. In 2010, Charlene wore a gown by Armani to Monaco's Rose Ball Gala and, more recently, the princess-to-be wore Armani Privé at Monaco's National Day, November 24. In April 2011, Charlene opted to wear Akris instead of Armani at Britain’s Royal wedding .This prompted a fresh series of rumors stating Armani would not be designing Charlene’s wedding dress.

Armani has not given any hints on what the wedding gown would look like, but comparisons with Princess Grace’s wedding gown are bound to follow. Grace Kelly’s wedding gown was designed by Helen Rose and was a gift from MGM studios. Grace Kelly’s dress had lace and long sleeves, a cinched waist, a voluminous skirt and modest veil. Charlene Wittstock is a statuesque blonde and nearly 6 feet tall. She has swimmer’s shoulders and a build tending to the muscular. Princess Grace was a much beloved princess and an icon of elegance and beauty. Hers will be a tough act to follow for Charlene.
