Green Tea And Weight loss

If you are trying to lose weight, there are millions of diets and products out there that promise the desired effect. One of these products, however, has been proven to have many beneficial effects, not only as regards weight loss, but also as a powerful prevention against many types of cancer. What is this miraculous product, you wonder? It’s green tea.

Although this drink has been around for more than 4000 years, its properties have only been extensively studied in the last fifteen years. Green tea differs from other varieties of tea in that it is dried quickly in the sun and there is no fermentation process, as opposed to the process involved in producing black tea. In this way, a nutrient called catechin present in all varieties of tea is preserved intact. It is these catechins that help prevent cancer by increasing the body’s production of anti toxic enzymes. Studies have shown a reduction in the development of colon, pancreatic and stomach cancer in people who drink green tea daily.

Green tea also contains polifenols, substances of strong antioxidant properties. It is these polyfenols which, together with other substances present in the body, increase oxidation levels and allow the body to burn excessive fat more proficiently. It also helps reduce LDL cholesterol (the “bad” kind of cholesterol), it has anti inflammatory properties which allow the heart to function correctly, and also helps get a clear skin.

Of the studies carried out associated with weight loss, there is one with extraordinary results. Three groups of people were given different beverages to drink in the morning, at midday and at lunch. The first group had to drink a placebo, the second one green tea with a low dose of anti oxidants, and the third group drank green tea with a high dose of anti oxidants. The results showed that, although the second and third groups had lost weight and lowered their cholesterol levels, it was the people in the third group, those who had drank green tea with a high dose of anti oxidants, who showed the most weight loss and cholesterol reduction.

Another good thing about green tea is that it can easily be added to your slimming diet. There are many ways in which you can start doing so. Some people recommend drinking a cup of unsweetened green tea first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, so that your body can take full advantage of its properties, and another one at night before going to sleep. Other diets suggest replacing your morning and afternoon cup of coffee with a cup of green tea. Another suggestion is to drink a cup of green tea with lunch and another with dinner. Whichever option works for you, however, you must bear in mind that what is normally recommended is a maximum of three cups per day.

If you are trying to lose weight, then green tea is a healthy, inexpensive option. Try to do some exercise everyday, have a balanced diet, which includes up to three cups of green tea, and you will soon see the results!
