Home Remedies In Ayurveda

Ayurveda, the ancient Indian healthcare system has the answer for almost all the health problems. Ayurveda is a way of life as it not only treatment of diseases but also to prevent diseases and protect and strengthen the body and mind. These home remedies provide fast relief.


Benefits of Ayurvedic Home Remedies


Several home remedies are recommended in Ayurveda that use the common herbs and ingredients available easily at home. They consist of plants, leaves, roots, fruits, seeds and flowers to cure ailments and also to protect against potential disorders. These ingredients are available readily at home and do not cause any side effect.  There is no need for precise measurements as slight variation in the proportion of ingredients will not do any harm. The methods of preparation are simple and can be easily done at home without the need of any special gadgets.  They are inexpensive and can treat most of the common ailments. 



Some Time Tested Home Remedies


Asthma: Juice of fresh ginger is strong and pungent is effective in opening the chest and is used in the management of asthma attacks.


Arthritis: Swallowing one teaspoon of fenugreek (methi) seeds with a cup of hot water at bed time helps to keep arthritis under control.


Burns: Make a paste of turmeric powder and water and apply on the affected area to get instant relief from minor injury.


Nausea: Mix half a glass of soda water with the juice of half a lemon and sip slowly.


Mouth Ulcer: Chewing grated fresh coconut or applying coconut oil can provide relief.

Indigestion and Stomach Pain: Take one spoonful of ginger juice with half a teaspoon of ghee.


Toothache: Clove is antiseptic and can prevent infection. Placing a clove near the painful tooth is effective in reducing the pain.


Diabetes: A mixture of Amla and Turmeric is effective.


Dry cough: Amla with ghee is recommended.


Fever: A mixture of Amla and crystal sugar works well.


White Vaginal Discharge: Take a mixture of one teaspoon of honey, one teaspoon of crystal sugar and one gram of Amla.


Internal Bleeding: Honey taken with wild Amla is effective.


Burning and slow urination: Amla juice is recommended.


Hiccup: Amla powder with Pippali or Black pepper is effective.


Fear and Anxiety: Applying ghee on the temples and taking the tea made of cumin seeds, fennel seeds, coriander seeds, Rose petals and jaggery.


Anger or Frustration: Applying ghee on the temples works. Juice of raisins after soaking it in water overnight blended with lemon juice is also effective.


Piles: A mixture of top cream of yogurt with Amla juice or powder taken twice a day provides relief.


Overweight: Guggulu is highly effective in weight reduction as it cleanses medha dhatu.


Anemia: Ayurveda recommends a home remedy of a cup of beetroot juice and a cup of apple juice mixed with honey or sugar to control and prevent anemia effectively and it speeds up production of Red Blood Corpuscles. Giving breast milk to infants helps in preventing anemia. 


Ayurvedic Diet and Lifestyle


Ayurveda has highly effective home remedies, diet and lifestyle suggestions for prevention of disease and for a healthy, strong and cheerful life.  


Rice gruel is recommended as a good remedy for people suffering from indigestion. The rice cooked in a large quantity of water. Long pepper is fried in cow’s ghee and powdered and added along with crushed ginger to the gruel. It should be consumed hot for relief form colic pain.


In the case of Diarrhea, rice gruel with large quantity of water mixed with ginger paste and half a cup of Pomegranate juice with salt according to taste is recommended.


Ayurvedic Home remedies for hair loss are very popular. Using coconut oil boiled with dark red shoe flower with its stalk and cooled and strained stops hair fall and also promotes thick hair growth.

Eating Indian gooseberry or orange helps in speedy absorption of iron in the body.
