Home Remedy for Depression

Depression affects millions of people all over the world. It is a mood disorder filled with feelings of loss, sadness, anger, or frustrations interfere with day to day life. Depression is found to be related to a chemical imbalance in the brain that makes it difficult for the cells to communicate with each another. Depression can be due to genetic reasons. It can manifest in varying degrees mostly because of the stress and pressures of modern life.  Depression is caused by nutritional deficiencies or serious medical conditions, such as cancer.

Home Remedies for Depression


1. Ashwagandha is a good home remedy for depression as it is found very useful for the treating manic depression, schizophrenia, and alcoholic paranoia.


2. Boil the seeds of cardamom in water with tea. It is an effective home remedy for depression apart from giving a sweet aroma to the tea. 


3. The root of asparagus is very helpful in the treatment of depression. It is highly effective and is often used as a medicine for mental disorders. It is a good brain and beneficial for the nerves.


4. Mixing nutmeg powder with freshly extracted Amla juice and consuming this thrice a day is a helpful home remedy for depression.


5. Brahmi is helpful for relief to the brain. A tea made with Brahmi and Ashwagandha taken thrice a day is highly effective in curing depression.  



6. Another domestic remedy for depression is to drink the tea made with Indian basil (Tulsi) and sage. Drink this tea twice a day as it is a good home remedy for depression.


7. The cashew nut is another good home remedy for general depression and also nervous weakness. It is vitamin enriched and is helpful in stimulating the appetite and the nervous system. Its high content of riboflavin keeps the body energetic, and the mind cheerful.


8. Licorice tea also works well for curing depression. Take 1-3 cups of this tea per day. 


9. Rose petals are well known as simple home remedies for depression. A mixture of rose petals should be prepared by mixing rose petals in boiling water. This should be drunk many times during the day instead of tea and coffee as it is helpful for treating depression.


10. Apple is one of the most effective home remedies for mental depression. Apple contains very useful ingredients such as vitamin B, phosphorus, and potassium helps the synthesis of glutamic acid, which can control the wear and tear of nerve cells. It can be taken with milk and honey. It helps in refreshing the nerves and provides energy.


11. In 1 cup of rice milk or soy milk, cook 3-4 tablespoons of oatmeal. Add nuts, almonds, dried fruits, maple syrup or honey to it. this would be effective in curing depression. 


12. Another method would be to stir a tsp of lavender leaves in a cup of boiling water. Have it when warm 3 times a day.


13. One more natural way to cure depression is to soak your feet in a tub of hot water to which rosemary leaves, chlorine and some soap are added. Stay for about 20 minutes and rub your feet.


14. Lemon balm has been used as a home remedy for depression successfully for treating depression. . It is known for its ability to raise the spirits and for its calming power on the nerves. About thirty grams of the herb should be placed in half a liter of cold water and allowed to stay for about twelve hours. This infusion should be strained and consumed in small doses many times during the day.


Diet for Depression


1. Avoid taking excessive tea, coffee, alcoholic beverages and strong condiments.


2. Stay away from colas, chocolates and white four, sugar and chemical additives etc.


3. Take your meals three times a day and should include fruits and milk.  Nuts can also be had in between.  Lots of green vegetables and sprouts and beans, cottage cheese and buttermilk are some healthy foods that can help in keeping good health and a cheerful mind.
