How to Apply Makeup Foundation

The foundation or base is the first and most important step in makeup application. It protects the skin against harmful elements such as ultraviolet rays, frost and air pollution. Choice of the correct foundation depends on how much one is ready to spend and on the skin type and color. Apply a couple dots of each color on areas of your jaw line to find out the skin type and the foundation which will suit it best. Take a good, long look to see which foundation looks best in the natural light. The right shade is the one that which is not visible because it blends into the skin tone so well.

Tips for Applying Foundation

1. Even a perfect foundation match to your skin is not effective if applied improperly. There are two main methods of applying foundation. The first instructs that one should do it with the tips of the fingers as it quickly reaches the right temperature and gets into skin.

2. Another method is in favor of a sponge to "know" how much foundation to use on your face as it ensures that the rest will stay onto the sponge without leaving trails on your skin. In case of liquid foundation, fingers are recommended as best mode of applying the makeup.

3. Apply a base foundation and a moisturizer to keep the foundation for long.   On hot day, puff powder a few times during the day to keep the foundation in place.

4. Foundation application needs patience and precision. If you use liquid foundation, avoid putting it just after using face cream as the cream will dilute the foundation and its layer will become too thin.

5. Many mineral makeups offer adjustable coverage which helps the women to use as much or as little as they want. One can also use a variety of available tools such as the Kabuki brush to provide the face with a flawless finish in a matter of a few minutes, especially when you are using the mineral makeup foundation.

6. While applying the foundation under eye area, one needs to choose a Concealer of the same shade as of the foundation. A shade lighter than your foundation in this area can brighten the eyes making them a little more obvious and brighter.

7. Try to apply a foundation that is light in texture and has sheen, rather than a matte, heavy one. Young people don't cake their skin in make-up, so lighter, illuminated skin is more youthful. Try to recreate the flushed look of youth by using a cream blusher.

8. To prevent sun damage and premature aging of the skin, use foundation in combination with sunscreen of at least 15 SPF.   You can also buy a foundation that contains sunscreen.
