Nutritional Value of Fruits

Fruits are well-known as disease fighter and are in demand by those who are on dieting as they are rich source of vitamin C, fiber, phytonutrients, Calcium, folic acid and carotenoids. Ten best fruits on the basis of the amount of these contents in them are; Avocado, Papaya, Guava, Cantaloupe, Orange, Apricots, Mango, Strawberries, Kiwi and Grapefruit.

 

Apple is available round the year and is a rich source of soluble fiber, pectin which lowers down the cholesterol levels. Apple contains flavenoids that fights cancer.

 

An apricot contains protein, calcium, iron, vitamin K, zinc, vitamin A, and folic acid even more than apple. They contain high amounts of beta-carotene, potassium and fiber as well.

Boysenberries contains high amounts of fiber whereas, cantaloupes are the rich source of vitamin C, beta carotene, and potassium.

 

Cherries contain beta carotene. Sour cherries contain more beta carotene as compared to sweet ones.

 

Dates contain high amount of fiber, iron, and niacin whereas, dried figs contain large amounts of calcium, fiber, protein, and potassium. They are used in the preparation of snacks in chopped form. They are an ideal instant energy giving fruit for athletes on the contrary, are risky for people suffering from diabetes.
